ABOUT ME
Hi there. I'm Adeola Oluwakamikun Adebajo, a project manager by day and a content creator every other time. My industry interests include:
* Sustainability (Energy & Environment)
As a global student, I observed that being eco-conscious is often portrayed as a matter of convenience. However, protecting and preserving our natural environment is not one country's problem or a rich man's concern. A frail planet and unpredictable climate will affect everyone, regardless of socio-economic status. My primary expression in this industry is my nonprofit, The Evergreen Project. We focus on building environmental awareness through programs tailored to communities. Our goal? To develop resilient Nigerian communities ready for the changing world.
Energy, especially electricity, is not only vital as a factor in environmental protection or a statistic in measuring carbon emissions; stable electricity is essential for any country's economic growth. Choosing more sustainable options from the beginning may be more challenging than fossil fuels, but the social good will always outweigh the private costs. My main expression of my passion in this industry was my college senior thesis, where I researched the feasibility of providing affordable and renewable clean energy for Lagos residents. * Healthcare
Health is indeed wealth. As a public health graduate and scientist, I enjoy studying how various determinants could affect communities' health. Over time, I integrated the concept of public health into my nonprofit as environmental and community health are inextricably linked. The health of our environment will always affect our personal and community health. How can a community with arid farmlands have the proper nutrition? How can a community with improper waste disposal or haphazard deforestation be protected from water-borne diseases when the rainy season arrives?
I am also an avid advocate for integrating technology with healthcare to improve service delivery. For example, the electronic transfer and storage of medical records to prevent physical file damage from disasters like fires and floods.
* Smart Cities & Technology
Smart cities are another way of saying cities run by various technologies. Many issues can be solved with technology. One of my favorites in Lagos, Nigeria, is using technology in law enforcement. Previously, many intersections were a nightmare, and traffic lights were just glorified decorations. However, installing a tech-enabled ticketing system is finally bringing order to some places in the city. Except for drivers who want a ticket more than half the minimum wage, everyone has to obey the traffic lights now. We might have heard that information is power, but its application, especially through technology, is true power. Technology is an excellent medium for creating practical solutions to real-world problems, so I am always an advocate for technologies that can reduce the strain on society.
* Governance, Policy & Citizenship Education
Unfortunately, governance and politics are often seen as dirty or corrupting work. I completely disagree. Power and its other compatriots, like wealth or honor, only magnify existing personal attributes. I dedicate my social media to educating my community about good character and leadership skills. We seem to only have bad leaders because many good people shy away. Read my thoughts on Kami's View, where I address how our mindsets shape governance. Examples include active citizen participation, leadership through service, operating from love, wisdom, and compassion, and building resilience to negative influences.
Operations & Project Management
It's one thing to have ideas and dreams, but an entirely different thing to act on them. From bureaucratic legislature to redundant school registrations, it is obvious why people in specific sectors are quite irritable. It might be common to fantasize about the ease of systems in other countries, but orderliness and efficiency should not have nationalities. I will not ignore that many exciting and refreshing steps have been taken in various sectors. Still, I aim to bring seamless ease and order to organisations and businesses, both big and small in my capacity as a project manager.
