Some are eager, more than others, to see the end of the one they call 2020.

I remember this time last year, people all over the world were ready. Ready to ring in 2020. Some many acronyms, memes, broadcast messages were already flying around with a #2020. For some, it would be the year of breakthrough, favour, dominion, mercy, but no one knew what was coming. As the year drew closer, people leaped even higher and farther trying to grasp the hem of her clothes as if it was lined with gems. The year of their dreams was coming, it was almost here. Meanwhile in another part of the world, secluded from prying eyes and constant news was coverage, trouble was a' brewing, disease was spreading, people were dropping like zombies in a Hollywood horror film. The year which promised heaven and earth was about to be stained and stained badly.

"For the lips of the adulterous woman drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil; but in the end, she is bitter as gall, sharp as a double-edged sword."

Proverbs 5:3‭-‬4 NIV

Happy New Year!!!

People began to rejoice. Fireworks swished through the air lighting up the sky as countries down to neighbors tried to outdo the other in a glamorous show of welcome.

2020 had arrived and Indeed she had.

Just weeks into the fairytale year, the news began to spread, a disease, contagious and deadly was spreading, from country to country, it grew like cancer spreading its cells across the earth. Countries were put on lockdown, schools were closed, hospitals started filling up with people of all ages and backgrounds.

People were forced to stay at home in order to protect both young and old. Gatherings were restricted. Parties were canceled. Plans were postponed and families separated. The news didn't help as they sang their new theme song, COVID-19.

Depression, gender-based violence, divorce, and a host of other hidden issues were uncovered as 2020 swept through each country and household. No one could escape the cantankerous new neighbor who was determined to stay.

We tried avoiding her, waiting till April, pretending like she didn't exist, waiting till Summer. But as some struggled to keep her in check, she continued to wreak havoc in other places rivaling the 1918 Spanish Flu. The year of dreams had become the year of death.

But she did not like to party alone so she called her friends. "Bring out the worst in them", they shouted as they went into the streets. Racism, political violence, intolerance, depression, cancer, all coming for the children of men. But they only wanted to dream.

Everyone had their own story of how the woman and her friends had affected them, some were able to soar while many more were pressed into uncomfortable submission. Many lost their homes while many lost much more, a life, an eternity. All on the children of men. As each people tried to cope, they met face to face with their own struggles. Bad governance, suppressed people, manipulation, bribery, corruption, lack of integrity, and yet men turned on brothers. People fell fighting, singing, all for a glimmer of the hope they thought she carried. Where was it? Where is it?

But in the midst of the storm, they saw a man, walking peacefully, he was now standing on the waves. The waves that were destroying the sons of men didn't dare the Son of Man. With hair as white as snow, hair as soft as wool, eyes as gentle as a dove, he reached out to them. "Come to me" he said unto them, who once adorned were now tear-streaked.

"Can we trust him?", they whispered among themselves, trying to decide.

"Hadassah, No!!", someone suddenly yelled. Hadassah had jumped from the deck. Desperate to get away from this string of bad luck, she disappeared from the sight of her shipmates. Some hurried to the edge to see whether she had made it while others who were bound asked around.

"There she is." someone said. "Where?" Another asked.

Hadassah was now walking on water, moving closer to the strangely peaceful man who was running towards her.

"Peter? Where's Peter?" Another said from the bow. "There he is. He's also walking in the storm." His wife and daughter jumped off the boat trying to catch up with him. Behind them, dozens more started jumping off while others helped those who were bound to break off their chains so they could get away.

Further off, Hadassah was now in being thrust up in the air as this strange man caught her midway. A magical white horse had now appeared and he was now riding to meet the children of men some walking, some running, and some stumbling just to get to him.

The Son of God had come for the children of men.

"I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.” He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: king of kings and Lord of Lords."

Revelation 19:11‭-‬16 NIV
